The Encore ESP is a simple grinder that handles both espresso and filter coffee well, and it's easy to get spare parts for. Twenty small steps cover espresso and twenty wider ones cover everything else, and the burr comes out without tools. It has no timer and nothing to hold the portafilter, and it's louder and messier than other grinders at the price.

- There are twenty fine settings just for espresso and twenty coarser ones for filter, AeroPress and cafetière.
- The burrs come from Etzinger, a well-known burr maker, and you can take them out without tools.
- Thin spacers called shims come in the box, so the finest settings stay fine enough as the parts wear in.

- There's no timer, so you switch it on and off yourself or press the button to grind in short bursts.
- It grinds into a cup, which you then tip into the portafilter.
- The body is plastic and the motor is high-pitched. Static also makes the grounds cling to the cup and scatter.
