The Silvia is a heavy, plainly built single-boiler machine with a 58mm group like a café machine's, made to last for decades. There's no electronic temperature control (PID), so the temperature changes from shot to shot and you have to learn to work around it. It suits people who enjoy that kind of hands-on learning, and it's the wrong machine if you want consistent shots without the effort.

At a glance
At a glanceWhat's good
- The group head is brass and the portafilter is 58mm, the same size café machines use.
- The steam wand is very strong for a single-boiler machine, and once it's up to pressure it makes smooth milk.
- It's simple inside and easy to repair, and spare parts are widely sold.
Worth knowing
- Without a PID, the brew temperature drifts. Many owners learn a flushing routine (temperature surfing) or fit an aftermarket PID kit.
- After every shot you wait for its one small boiler to heat up for steam.
- It only takes non-pressurised baskets, which means buying a good espresso grinder from the start.
- It takes 15–20 minutes for the whole machine to heat through.
