Lelit
Lelit Anna PID (PL41TEM)
From £483.99
The Anna is a small single-boiler machine with electronic temperature control (PID), which the Gaggia Classic and Rancilio Silvia lack, so shots come out at the temperature you set without any workarounds. A pressure gauge shows whether your grind is about right, which helps while you're learning. The main drawback is the 57mm basket, an unusual size that fewer accessories fit.

At a glance
At a glanceWhat's good
- You set the brew temperature in 1°C steps, and the PID holds it there.
- The pressure gauge shows whether your grind and dose are in the right range.
- The water tank holds 2.7 litres, which is a lot for a machine only 23cm wide.
- Once it has heated up for steam, it froths a small jug of milk in under a minute.
Worth knowing
- The 57mm basket is an uncommon size, so fewer aftermarket baskets and tampers fit than on 58mm machines.
- With one boiler, you can't brew and steam at the same time.
- You can't see the water level through the tank, and the tank has no handle.
- It only takes non-pressurised baskets, so you'll need a grinder that can grind finely enough for espresso.
