This is the cheapest machine with a built-in grinder that we think is worth buying. It takes non-pressurised baskets and has a pressure gauge, so it's a good machine for learning espresso with fresh beans. The grinder has only eight settings, and you may find that limiting once you know what you like.

At a glance
At a glanceWhat's good
- The grinder is built in, so you get freshly ground coffee without buying a separate grinder, and a dosing guide cuts down on spilled grounds.
- It uses non-pressurised baskets, and a pressure gauge shows whether your grind is too coarse or too fine.
- You can choose from three brew temperatures and adjust the pre-infusion, a gentle soak before full pressure.
- A tamper, tamping mat and milk jug come in the box.
Worth knowing
- The grinder has only eight settings, and the right espresso grind can fall between two of them.
- One heater does both jobs, so you wait between brewing and steaming.
- Owners say it asks to be descaled often.
- With the bean hopper on top it's 40cm tall, so check it fits under your wall cupboards.
